Zipporah Pottenger Dobyns, geboren am 26. August 1921, 21:48 in Chicago, Illinois, gestorben am 7. Juni 2003 in San Diego war eine bedeutende amerikanische Astrologin, während vieler Jahre sehr engagiert in der Organisation ISAR und Mitarbeiterin von Neil Michelsen bei Astro Computing Services (ACS) in San Diego. Ihre akademische Ausbildung umfasste einen B.A. in Anthropologie von der Universität Chicago, einen Master (1966) in klinischer Psychologie und einen Doktor der Philosophie (1969) von der University of Arizona.

Ihre vier Kinder Rique Pottenger, William Pottenger, Maritha Pottenger und Mark Pottenger haben sich ebenfalls in der Astrologie einen Namen gemacht.

Bekannt ist Zipporah (oder Zip) Dobyns auch durch das Astrologische Alphabet, einen Begriff, den sie sehr populär gemacht hat und viel benutzt hat, im Englischen umgangssprachlich gerne auch als "Zip Code" (in Anlehnung an die dortige Bezeichnung des Postleitzahlensystems) bezeichnet.
