Synonym: Direct motion

The usual direction of planetary movement. The Sun and the Moon are always in direct motion along the ecliptic and through the zodiac. All other planets – from a geocentric point of view – go through phases where they appear to be in retrograde motion, a factor which is taken into account in any interpretation. In English language ephemerides a 'D' is usually printed next to a planet when its motion changes from retrograde to direct.
