Individual Astrology
The branch of astrology which concentrates on the interpretation and prognosis for the horoscopes of individuals. Central to this is the natal chart and all other horoscopes derived from it. From a historical point of view individual astrology developed later on. Up until Roman times it remained the privilege of heads of state and priests, and only then because their fate was equated with the fate of the nation. For the general public and even the nobility an individual horoscope was unthinkable.
The emphasis on the individual in Greek philosophy and later in modernity influenced astrological thought which began to extend its methods to include individuals irrespective of their standing in society. Ptolemy had already devoted a considerable amount of space to individual astrology in his main work "Tetrabiblos". Today, individual astrology is so widely practised that very few people are aware of its counterpart mundane astrology. And anyone can immerse themselves in the subject owing to the wide availability of astrological information and proliferation of published works.
