Synonym: Popular astrology

A form of astrology which doesn't base its interpretations on any actual horoscope chart but makes generalised statements for each sign of the zodiac. It is also sometimes called popular astrology. Populist astrology generally only considers the position of the Sun and refers to the Sun sign as star sign. The twelve signs are sometimes further divided into three decans, but apart from that populist astrology ignores any further details. This results into all humans being categorised according to twelve types, although recently the Moon's sign has occasionally been taken into account. With such a one-sided and incomplete image it is not surprising that the character analyses and predictions are false and meaningless. Populist astrology is most widespread in newspaper columns and the majority of people are unaware that any other type of astrology exists - which helps to explain why so many reject "astrology". However, there is a growing awareness that a horoscope is a highly complex matter.
