Symbol: Q or a08_017.gif

As aspect of 72 degrees between two planets. The quintile is considered to be a minor aspect and although it is thought to be a favourable aspect is seldom used for interpretation purposes. It is valid with an orb of 2 to 3 degrees.

The quintile points to talents and potential not necessarily indicated by the major aspects. This is particulary true of artistic talent. The astrologer Michael Roscher writes: "Quintiles are similar to trines with the difference that there is a greater emphasis on creativity. Where planets are in quintile aspect there is the desire and ability to find creative and artistic solutions to overcome the existing status quo."

Five quintiles around a circle form a pentagram, one of the oldest magic figures (Aspect Figure). A pentagram drawn with a single point upwards is a symbol for humanity. The reverse pentagram with two points projecting upwards and one downwards stands for black magic or the Devil. Many spiritual or secret societies have used the former to ward of demons. The pentagram is also a symbol of health.
