Spring Equinox

The point at which the Sun crosses the celestial equator (the Earth's equator projected out onto the celestial sphere) on its path from the Southern into the Northern hemisphere. In other words, it crosses the point of intersection between the ecliptic and the celestial equator. The other point of intersection is the autumnal equinox which is located directly opposite.

The spring equinox is also called the Aries Point because at the time it was named, it was to be found in the constellation of Aries. Since that time, owing to the Earth's precession, it has moved into the sign of Pisces. However, this has no relevance for modern astrology which is based on the tropical zodiac which always begins at 0 degrees of Aries.

When the Sun reaches the Spring Equinox around the 21st March, the number of daylight hours is equal all over the globe.
