The Elements (fire, earth, air, water) may reflect four brain chemicals in action.

Dr Helen Fisher, of Rutgers University, questioned over 40,000 people on the dating website Chemistry.com, and reports her findings Valentine's Day, 2009. The [Wired article http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/02/kissingscience/] notes - " there are four dimensions of temperaments, or biologically based traits, and each is associated with different chemical systems in the brain: Dopamine is associated with traits like novelty seeking, risk taking, curiosity and creativity; (Air) Serotonin was linked to calm, caution, cooperation, loyalty, and tradition; (Earth) Testosterone with decisiveness and emotional containment; (Fire) and Estrogen lumped together with oxytocin was linked to nurturing, patience and social skills."
