An important branch of present-day astrology. Psychological astrology is part of [[Individual Astrology|individual astrology]]. It considers the horoscope to be a reflection of the soul. Its aims are to help an individual gain a better understanding of themselves and to accept all sides of their personality - the "good" and the "bad".

When a psychological astrologer interprets a horoscope and gives advice, he/she will generally try to avoid being judgemental. Psychological astrology emphasises taking over responsibility for our own actions and the importance of free will. It concentrates on the potential, chances and possible difficulties reflected in the horoscope and tries to help the horoscope owner find constructive ways of actualising their inner potential.

However, it would be a mistake to think that a [[consultation]] with a psychologically orientated astrologer is equivalent to psychotherapy.

Many astrologers have immersed themselves in the ideas of psychology, with a number holding degrees in psychology. Conversely, although there are many psychologists who work with astrology, this is often done in secret because if they were open about this, they could face discrimination from colleagues or risk losing their job.
